1. What is Far Red Light?Far red light refers to a specific range of light wavelengths, typically between 700 and 800 nanometers, which is just beyond the visible red spectrum. In cultivation, far red light plays a significant role in regulating various physiological processes.
2. Far Red Light and FloweringPhotoperiodism, the response of plants to light cycles, is influenced by far red light. Manipulating the red to far red ratio can trigger flowering, optimizing the timing and quality of flower production.
3. Targeting the Emerson EffectThe Emerson effect refers to a fascinating phenomenon observed in photosynthesis. When chloroplasts (the cellular structures responsible for photosynthesis) are exposed to specific wavelengths of light, their rate of photosynthesis significantly increases.
This effect was first discovered by scientist Alexander Emerson in 1957, and it has since been extensively studied by plant biologists.
While the Emerson Effect is typically associated with increases in photosynthesis, it can also lead to other changes in plant physiology, such as increased cell division and growth.
One effective way to leverage the Emerson Effect is by using a supplemental far-red light bar for 10-15 minutes after turning off full-spectrum lights.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Supplementation
The use of CO2 with this fixture is not mandatory, but to run it without it, then we recommend a longer canopy distance to the light, ensuring the optimal PPFD levels accordingly to the grow stage. Using this last method the expected optimal coverage area gets to 1.8×1.8m but with lower levels of PPFD intensity concentration.
Supplementation use of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in your controlled environment can significantly improve the yield of your crop if used correctly. In general a good rule is that once you exceed 1000 µmol/s/m2 PPFD levels, you should be 1:1 with CO2 PPM – up to 1500. So at max PPFD = 1500 µmol/s/m2, CO2 would be 1500 PPM (a little lower, 1400 PPM may be the safest to start).
